Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 2: Release Date, Cast, And More

(Welcome to ...And More, our no-frills, zero B.S. guide to when and where you can watch upcoming movies and shows, and everything else you could possibly stand to know.)

How many Spider-Mans is too many Spider-Mans? Just kidding, of course — the more spider-powered people, the merrier! The "Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse" sequel is very much on the way and we couldn't be happier about it. Back in 2018, the first film dazzled audiences with its innovative animation style and emotional storytelling. Thankfully, the story doesn't end there, with Miles Morales primed to make his return. Now that he's mastered the "thwip and release," it's time to find out what else this young superhero can do.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 2 Release Date And Where To Watch

Miles Morales is set to make his return on October 7, 2022, in the still-untitled "Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse" sequel. This comes four years after the original film debuted, though the sequel's been anticipated since the very start. Buzz surrounded the project even before the wide release, so talks of a sequel were basically immediate. Sony officially confirmed the sequel in November 2019, with its initial release date planned for April of 2022. Like so many others, the films schedule changed drastically due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the release date was eventually shifted to October 2022.

What Is Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 2 About?

Plot details for "Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 2" have been kept tightly under wraps, with only a few characters confirmed to return, and the story remains a mystery. The movie is a direct sequel to the first, continuing the story of Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) and building on his relationship with Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld). Producer Amy Pascal previously revealed that the film will explore a romance between the pair, which was cut from the original story. The seeds for their relationship have certainly been planted, but given they literally live in alternate dimensions, it's not hard to imagine a few complications coming up along the way.

An alternate dimension Spider-Woman is also expected to appear, and the sequel will serve as a launch-pad to a female-led spinoff, likely featuring Gwen, Jessica Drew, and potentially Korean-American hero, Cindy Moon, aka Silk. So far, very little has been seen of the Spider-Verse sequel, but footage released at CinemaCon centered on Gwen and Miles.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 2 Cast

The sequel sees the return of Shameik Moore as the voice of Miles Morales, now a full-fledged hero, more comfortable with his Spider-Man abilities after fighting off Wilson Fisk with the other Spider-sonas. Jake Johnson returns as his disheveled but occasionally wise mentor, Peter B. Parker. Hailee Steinfeld voices Gwen Stacy, Spider-Woman from another dimension who helped Miles accept and adapt to his new identity as a hero. The trio will be joined by Issa Rae as alternate-reality Spider-Woman, Jessica Drew. So far, there's no word on whether we'll see the return of the first films other Spider-stars, John Mulaney, Nicolas Cage, or Kimiko Glen.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 2 Writers, Director And More

Based on characters created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, the Spider-Verse films are steered by producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. For the sequel, the pair co-wrote the screenplay with David Callahan ("The Expendables," "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Tend Rings"). Directors include Voltron showrunner Joaquim Dos Santos ("Justice League Unlimited," "Avatar: The Last Airbender"), Kemp Powers ("Soul"), and Justin K. Thompson ("Spider-Man: Into The Spider-verse"). Producers on the project include Lord, Miller, Amy Pascal, Avi Avad and Christina Steinberg.
